We are celebrating a critical victory for freedom of expression and the fight against exploitation! After weeks of unjust detention, Mech Dara, an award-winning journalist who exposed industrial-scale cyber slavery in Cambodia, has been released on bail.
This major milestone comes after sustained advocacy efforts and widespread condemnation of the charges against Dara. As someone who bravely shed light on the trafficking and exploitation of vulnerable workers, Dara’s work is vital in holding powerful interests accountable.
While we celebrate his release, the fight isn’t over. Dara still faces vague charges of “incitement” that could result in a prison sentence of up to two years—a common tactic used to silence voices like his. This is why our community must continue to stand by him and others who risk everything to expose the truth.
This success is a testament to the power of collective action. Thousands for Freedom United supporters wrote to the Cambodian authorities calling for Dara’s release—and they listened! Thank you to everyone who supported our efforts and helped amplify the call for Dara’s release. Your voice made a difference!
Together, we’ll continue to fight for a world where no one is punished for shining a light on exploitation.
