Gender-Based Violence, Migration, and the AAPI Experience: An Intersectional Approach to Serving Survivors
Developing a trauma-informed practice is essential for attorneys working with survivors of gender-based violence. An effective trauma-informed practice recognizes the unique needs of survivors, taking into account their cultural backgrounds, as well as the discrimination and biases they have experienced and that may contribute to their trauma.
This two-part series will provide a historical overview of the migration and development of Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities in America, will challenge assumptions about AAPI survivors, and provide trauma- and culturally-informed practice tips for pro bono attorneys working with AAPI survivors.
Part 1: Laying the Foundation: A Historically Grounded Perspective on AAPI Immigrant Survivors Today
