HAH: International Day to End Violence Against Women
The Hookers Against Hardship campaign is holding a public event on Friday 25th November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The event will explore how poverty is a fundamental cause of violence against women, and particularly violence against sex workers. Poverty is coercive, limits agency, and is violent in itself. As public awareness of the realities of poverty increases due to the cost of living crisis, we need to make clear how poverty narrows women’s options and exposes them to violence from partners, clients, and the state. We also need to come together in solidarity to combat poverty, in order to end violence against women.
*40 tickets are available, and the event will not be live streamed but will be recorded and made available online later on*
The event will include speakers from:
The English Collective of Prostitutes
The union branch United Sex Workers
SWARM
Sisters Uncut
Women Against Rape
Miriam Karmali, Advocacy Manager at Freedom United
Mary Atkinson, Campaigns Officer at JCWI
National Ugly Mugs
and other speakers to be confirmed soon, who will explore the particular experiences of migrant women, women of colour, and LGBT women.
If you have any accessibility requirements for the event, please let us know as soon as you can at [email protected].
