Determinants of Anti-Trafficking Efforts

“This event is the culmination of a two and a half year research project undertaken at BIICL, which analysed the determinants of anti-trafficking efforts. Determinants are understood as factors shaping governments’ anti-trafficking efforts and influencing compliance with – and implementation of – international standards. They include international and domestic law including case law, external monitoring and threats of sanctions, civil society engagement, cultural and societal factors, economic conditions, funding, governance structures, events and crises as well as political will. These factors are inter-connected, non-linear and context specific.

The project sought to understand these determinants through desk research, expert interviews, a stakeholder survey and 14 case studies.

The results of the research, and their implications for anti-trafficking efforts, will be presented at the event by the research team, and discussed with key stakeholders including the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Trafficking.

The webinar is part of the Determinants of Anti-trafficking Efforts project, funded by the United States Government.”
