The United States is helping survivors of sexual violence.  This article tells of a 14-year-old girl who was violently raped by a neighbor in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).  Her name was Marie and she was afraid she didn’t have any options…

He was a powerful man, and she feared he would be immune from punishment.  Eventually, she went to a clinic run by the American Bar Association’s Rule of Law Initiative, where legal aid and psychological support was available.  She began to cope with the trauma and eventually pressed charges.  Her rapist went to trial and was found guilty.  “More of this kind of justice is desperately needed in countries and communities plagued with conflict, lawlessness, and sexual and gender-based violence.”  See the full article by clicking on the link below…
